On November 5, SBS uploaded a video titled “[Gudam TV] Gudam Cathedral – Confession of Father Kim Hae-il | The Fiery Priest 2” on their official channel. In the video, Kim Nam-gil begins with an apology, saying, “It’s been five years since my last confession. I’m truly sorry.”

He continued, “I said ‘to be continued’ five years ago, but then went silent. I deeply apologize for that and sincerely ask for forgiveness here.”

Kim explained, “Many people loved The Fiery Priest 1 far beyond my expectations, but I’ve been busy with other commitments, including reading minds of ‘evils’ through the darkness and various other projects. Before I knew it, five years had passed.”

Declaring his commitment, Kim pledged to give his all, saying, “As much as you loved The Fiery Priest 1, I will put my heart and soul into delivering thrilling satisfaction in The Fiery Priest 2.” However, he humorously broke character to scold his co-stars in the background, shouting, “I told you not to eat bread while I’m speaking! How many times have I said not to eat bread in the cathedral?”—a nod to his hot-headed character, Father Kim Hae-il.

Returning to a serious tone, Kim concluded, “I apologize for keeping you waiting for so long. I hope to repay your patience with a show that’s even more exciting, enjoyable, and fulfilling.”

Earlier, in September, actor Ji Seung-hyun, who played a character entangled in an affair on the show Good Partner, also issued multiple public apologies. In August, he stated via an official channel, “I apologize for not addressing my on-screen daughter in my previous apology video. I deeply regret causing any discomfort to viewers,” offering a special apology to his character’s daughter, played by Kim Jae-hee.

With The Fiery Priest 2 set to premiere in just three days, Kim Nam-gil’s public apology has captured fans’ attention.
